Introductions: Inner City

Share

It wasn't long before Ax'L had his eyes focused on the gang that had been terrorizing the inner city, outside of the upper deck. With this new Ute at his disposal-and a small fridge strapped into the back for better weight distribution-he quickly managed to wiggle his way into the roster of current racers.

However, introductions had not yet been made. Word had been traveling about the guy that took down the head of the Downtown gang, but with his car totaled and around a different collection of people, few recognized Ax'L, apart from their leader, Korrigan. Responsible for her fare share of missing persons, Korrigan has been keeping her foot on the throat of anyone and everyone within reach for years now, and she was well-aware of the kind of punk she was dealing with. In the middle of a race she thought she'd step in and introduce herself, freaking Ax'L out as he was slowing down for a turn with a hard reverse entry to circle around infront of him, the split-second staredown being all she needed to size up her prey.

"I know who you are, what you're doing. It stops here."

Within seconds she was gone in a thick cloud of tiresmoke and antilag pops.

Ax'L finished that race in 6th.

My first actual race piece in forever! In addition to my regular attempts at pushing perspective, with this piece I wanted to be more dynamic and play with black bars as well, trying to push everything going on as hard as I could, taking inspiration from blur and the Pootis Engage videos. The smoke was its own beast and had to be revised several times before I got to where it is now, I tried a different approach after looking at the way tiresmoke is done in NFS Unbound (which is GREAT by the way, highly recommend it). For the reverse entry I took heavy reference from the one in Ken Blocks newest Gymkhana video , and wanted to capture this AWD car just before it disappears into its own smokescreen. I really want to try and play with this style some more with the next piece after this one in some way shape or form, I really like how it turned out!

Thank you so much for looking at my work and, if you read it, my terrible writing skills!
