There's a special part of the Shipsgrave cemetery called the Playground where only children are buried, so they could all be close to each other and wouldn't feel alone. Though Steven says that it's a cover-up, and that the statues are the kids who trespassed on the Gorgon property and were turned into stone.
From "Welcome to Shipsgrave", my Lovecraftian anthology of illustrated creepy short stories inspired by "The Shadow over Innsmouth", about a boy who moved with his father to a strange town with fishy locals.

Steven, darling, don't be so supersticious. These obviously aren't children who turned into stone because of a gorgon... gorgon statues don't pose like that. They're either caught screaming or unwarily walking into danger. Not mid motion of something characteristic of them like this.
I mean, really! Those aren't even looking fowards. Kids can be so easy to fool.
