The combined skill of the Achaean archers, from Teucer of Telamon to the quick-thinking Odysseus, defeated many Amazons that day. But queen Penthesilea alone felled just as many Greeks with her bow.
Day 6 of the self-imposed Ides of March challenge, and I'm preparing myself mentally for a big change because we're almost halfway through and nearing some of my absolute favorite picks. The Amazonian queen Penthesilea embodies an increase in detail for the outfits as opposed to all the recent nudity. If you're wondering about the crack going over her face, it's because the Greeks gouged out her eye after her death.
If you like this illustration, please stick around! There are 9 more of them to go during this month, and my goal is to post one every day.
