Those who’ve been following me a while would recall the job I held longest in the Corps was Combat Photographer (4641). This Fenathkin Legionnaire from the comic is kind of a gonzo nod to old camera & inkstick Marine friends.

Unfortunately, my unit did not allow me to carry a revolver and tomahawk in the field. Weird!!

Also this was drawn in last night's livestream on my Twitch channel, where we JUST broke 2000 followers. Thank you SO MUCH everyone who's been tuning in, it's by far my favorite platform and it's been great watching it grow with you all. If you haven't followed me there you, you're missing out - we have tons of fun during my shows, and it's the best place to chitchat with me.

I really love this style, and the detail in the drawing, good job.

That's very nice! I wonder how often do you add these kinds of "nods" in your comic?

As I think you have mentioned before

(...somewhere, I don't even remember where I got this notion from, maybe because of your "Field art" or somewhere written on your site, though also it's kind of obvious from the comic itself),

your experience in the military influenced this comic, but I was wondering in what not so obvious other ways?

reaganlodge responds:

Hey Ramzus, thanks for the kind words!

My comic is actually a straight up fantasized retelling of a lot of things I went through in real life, whether in my physical life (ie growing up as a lonely kid in a rural mining town I wanted to escape from, and some of the military cameos), or mental/emotional stuff I dealt with and am retelling with fictional characters.

Obviously this isn't meant to be a gritty realistic war comic, but it's full of little weird touches from my time in service, like the way I designed the helmets and uniforms and some odd jokes you might see in there.

Not sure what aesthetic I'd call this but there certainly is one. Like it a lot though.

reaganlodge responds:

Thanks Jonnyism. I'm not sure what to call it yet either, it's just kind of a Frontier-Fantasy Dieselpunk blend for me, I think.
