In an alternate route where Leon was attacked by Sayaka but never killed her in retaliation and instead revealed her murder attempt to the others, the 15 students trapped in the Killing School Life have become wary of one another and isolated themselves, having the unintended effect of making the killing game extremely boring, to the mastermind's chagrin. Fed up with such an early stalemate, the headmaster Monokuma decides to create a new motive to get things moving. Using an experimental medicine, he randomly exchanges the bodies of all the students trapped in the school overnight as a means to force them to interact with (and hopefully kill) one another. As his luck would have it, Makoto Naegi, the main protagonist, wakes up the next morning and sees none other than Sayaka Maizono looking back at him in the mirror.
