Ever since I’ve read “Goodnight Punpun” by Inio Asano around 2013, I liked a lot the first design that Pun Pun had as an infant, despite that the story moved further on with other subjects, and drastically changing his design.

Since then, I started to look on some alternative ways to create something original (or something different), by drawing other types of shapes and forms (noses, “peaks”, body shapes, feet), BUT, keeping that style that I liked.

When I showed to my family and friends, they have found some similarities between Mr Saturn from Earthbound, and those Peeps marshmallows candies (these peeps in particular I’ve never heard of this, I thought they were some kind of sponges).

On this image, I put together the vast majority of sketches and doodles that I kept from 2013 till 2018. I used to have a couple more, but they got lost over the years, since most of them were drawn on tiny pieces of paper.

To make it more adequate to share it, I did some slight redraws and I edited some of them, giving a feeling of interaction between them. As a bonus, I also added the early concepts of Pip and Bob that I got laying around.
