Mabel Harper lived a normal life...until one day, she was taken from her home by strange people in jumpsuits and masks. They put her in a blindfold in order to confuse her sense of direction. She didn't realize it at the time, but she was likely never going to see her family again. Mabel did everything in her power to escape, but a little girl normally can't beat up a bunch of grown men.

Anyway, they took her into a creepy building that might've been one of those old mental institutions. This was where they performed bizarre, scary and unethical experiments on all sorts of people. Some scientists wanted to see if adding animal traits would create a new stage of evolution, and Mabel just so happened to be one of the perfect subjects for this setting. She was instructed to go to the next room, which she was hesitant on.

The man allowed her to change in privacy, then told her to sit down. He used a syringe on her shoulder without warning, which made her even more terrified than she already was. Then Mabel felt excruciating pain in her head and face. Some kind of cartilage barged through her hair, and the fine points of the whiskers felt like daggers stabbing from inside. She asked him what was going on, and he simply told her that she'll make history as one of the greatest specimens who ever lived.

Though, something wrong has happened at some point, because only rejected mutants live on the floating islands. Since she wasn't highly deformed, it must've been recurring insubordination that landed her up there. She was adopted by a lady who could glow in the dark; a single woman from India who always wanted to be a mother. Oh, yeah, did I mention Mabel used to live in Canada?
