Which one of them is saying those words though? Is it the booze hound who's been harpooned and is weak and/or dying? Is he asking for help from anyone who is listening and the... celestial mermaid is the one listening and came to his aid? Is he asking for help to get away from her?
Or is it the celestial mermaid who is the one asking us to help and not "leave them be..."?
Because it almost looks like the mermaid was "normal" but has a horrible mask or lizard head on now. Which could be the reason for things being hazy and unable to see. Or perhaps it's the fading vision of a dying man?

the mermaid in the human world is a mascot for ice wine in his city, and she looks a lot cuter. otherwise shes a representation of his rather reckless behaviours in his mind.
