This makes me think of "the fool" from tarot cards which kinda fits, for only a fool would challenge the moon presence.

Interesting! You're the first one to mention The Fool. I've gotten a few comments on other places wondering if this was modelled after the Hanged Man tarot card.
I guess the hunter's mark is technically a hanged man.
