The glyphs above my characters' names usually refer to their hometowns, but Tecolli is a wandering traveler, so I used the symbol for "crossroads" in Mesoamerican codices, to signify he's always on the go. His home is the road.
Also, before anyone asks about the hat: yeah, there's various examples among the Maya, and along the Gulf Coast. Though I have never seen such hats in Central Mexico (Nahua/"Aztecs"/Mexica).

From what I can gather, long nails in codices often correlate with old characters, as well as sorcerers, wise, or powerful beings like deities. Though it may be just my own impression, that's kind of how I use it in my work.
