This is probably the only thing I'm going to draw from Undertale (that is not a commission) just to celebrate its 6th birthday.

Yes I know the general consensus on Undertale being cringe and usually I would agree with you, as I myself played the game through and generally thought it was just OK, but I will say the amount of detail Toby Fox put into the game's characters is hard to match in terms of making the player feel welcome, which is why I chose one of the harshest, most intimidating of them all to draw.

I wanted to do some armor practice on the side for this next piece of fanart that I am currently making (stay tuned for that by the way) that is taking me about a month to do, mostly from procrastination but also because of how shading metal isn't exactly the easiest thing to do, which is why I chose to put as much detail into the metal as possible, even including chainmail, something that I have never drawn before.

Back to what I was saying about Undyne directly though, I chose to draw her because the aforementioned armor and intimidation but also because she was basically my favorite character in the game. This scary royal guard turned out to be an actually wholesome weeaboo on the inside, which showed that even the least expected of characters could have real personality to them. Because of how Toby liked to make his characters I was able to also incorporate it a bit of that into the design of the armor. For instance, because she likes working out and suplexing things like boulders I tried to make her muscles visible through the chainmail, and also made the armor a bit more "fish" themed with wave-like patterns on it. I also took into the fact that the helmet might have needed some more protection to actually be, a helmet, so I put small bars between the helmet's teeth hidden by a layer of black cloth to be more intimidating, because (from personal experience) I know that weebs would go above and beyond when they cosplay.

As much as I have come to dislike Undertale in some regard, it was the game that introduced me to, interesting fandoms, and how to deal with people from them to keep me safe when I was into Homestuck a few years back (as this game introduced me to it because of its connection to the comic). I will give it a happy birthday nevertheless though.
