I actually really enjoyed working on this. I'm also doing a full color version sometime in the near future.
The "colored version" you're seeing here is actually the sketch (yeah a bit colorful for your average sketch but it was fun at least). The lines in the background of it are the smoke coming from his jetpack.
I planned to make the black and white image first, then color it. Because this was going to be my first time lighting + coloring a pretty big piece, I've cut a good chunk of the smoke since I figure it'd take a lot to really sell that it's smoke, plus I have never painted smoke before, so it'd take a fair amount of time to finish. I have a limited time budget usually, except in summer and around mid February, that's when things really do move at a faster pace.
