In late 1950, after American and United Nations forces pushed back the North Koreans from South Korea, they came close to the boarder with China. The Chinese seeing this as a threat and wanting to help their communist North Korean ally, launched a counterattack to push the Americans down to South Korea where the two sides would have a stalemate until the end of the war in 1953.
