Now that the horrible heat wave has seemingly ended for the time being, I was finally able to finish this piece.
I had been meaning to revamp my design for Tangle in my Sonic AU for a long time now.
The only problem was I kept putting it off for so long that it’s now been 3 years since I last drew Tangle.
Thankfully, now I have a good reason since my friend Viv’s birthday passed recently on July 28th.
So this was the perfect opportunity to kill two birds with one stone.
For this design, I wanted to make Tangle look more militant and not like she just walked out of Kingdom Hearts.
I took inspiration from Capcom, mainly characters like Rolento from Street Fighter and Krauser from Resident Evil 4.
I figured that a look like that would fit Tangle better.
Looking to add some more details, I took some notes from Slinger the Ocelot like using his beret, cape, and pistol holsters.
Not to mention, I gave her a steel baton to carry around, if only because I feel it fits Tangle’s more athletic build.
I’m very happy with the way this turned out, even if this took longer than it should have.
It just felt nice to give Tangle a little bit more love and to know she looks better than the last time I drew her.
Shadow’s Notes:
Tangle the Lemur, her inclusion in the Anti-Eggman Unit, is always something so strange to me.
Most of the members of my squad have some kind of deep-rooted hatred and trauma for Dr. Eggman.
Yvette had her underwater childhood home destroyed and harvested for raw materials.
Whisper was betrayed by her former teammate, Mimic the Octopus.
Who switched sides to Eggman and helped unleash the Shadow Androids that murdered the rest of the Diamond Cutters.
E-123 Omega was forced to guard me in a stasis pod for 3 years as Eggman tried and failed to clone me.
Rouge joined G.U.N to erase her criminal record, and my ties to the Robotniks is… far too complicated to get into right now.
But Tangle?
She just saw one day that Whisper was destroying an Egg Base by herself and decided, and I quote, “That’s rad! I’m going to follow the cool wolf girl in hopes of her training me!”
And since then, Tangle was attached to Whisper from the hip.
But, I suppose I can’t downplay Tangle’s reason for joining G.U.N.
Originally, only Whisper was scouted as a candidate, but Whisper said she and Tangle were a packaged deal.
Which makes sense, considering if it wasn’t for Tangle assisting Whisper in the death of Mimic the Octopus, she might not be here today.
I personally trained both Whisper and Tangle further, and it was clear to see there were both pretty experienced.
Tangle however was the most interesting to fight because of how she implements her tail into combat.
I often underestimated just how strong that tail was, as if I wasn’t keeping my eyes on it, I’d get tripped or smacked by it.
And that’s not counting the times when I was grabbed or wrapped by her tail as well.
Not to mention Tangle sneaking in capoeira with her kata, it’s extremely effective.
As the scout of the team, Tangle normally has light gear on her most of the time.
She has two pistols on her at any time.
They are Chaos Drive powered replicas of Slinger the Ocelot’s pistols, and are capable of firing single or burst fire shots.
They are very lightweight and Tangle enjoys doing “trick shots” with both of them.
I tried to discourage her from doing this, but every time it looks like Tangle is in a jam during a mission, her trick shots actually work.
Tangle also added a steel baton as a melee weapon.
While she still carries Mimic’s knife for emergencies, she seems to enjoy using that baton a bit more.
I’ve seen her decimate a small group of Egg Pawns by using that baton with her tail.
I have to agree with Whisper who was present during that moment, as she said “Tangle turned into a tornado of death” with how she just kept her momentum with every swing.
You may not use this work for any purposes.
