I wanted to think outside the box, but also make something inside a box......? The key feature "light" and Jazza's Jazzy Artbox inspired me to make my own box for this isolation competition - a papercut lightbox!

Isolation often means that you're alone, either by choice or excluded by others. But when you think about it, you're never truly alone. You're with the most important person in the world - yourself. Led by just a little source of light, you can find and rescue yourself from the isolation you never wanted and enjoy the beauty around you.

My piece symbolizes that isolation. Isolated from the world and alone in the wilderness, this girl sees her reflection in the lake. She realizes she has never been alone this whole time - she found herself and is trying to drag herself up to the surface. You're wondering if I listened to Mulan's song Reflection while making this? Pffftf! Noooo.... maybeee.....

WIP:

• I used Krita to paint my concept into layers for the lightbox.
• Then I printed each layer on a thicker paper and used a x-acto knife to cut out the scenery.
• I used some kind of foam cardboard to cut out frames (of 0,5mm x 0,5mm x long side/short side) for each ark and glued them together in the right order.
• After that, I cut out the frames for the box and glued two LED-strips on the back, facing in behind all layers. The placement of the LED-strips and the two different light colors (orange and blue) made a nice blend, which created that teal fog illusion and the purple sky.

This took forever to make, but it sure was fun and exciting! I hope you liked it, if not please tell me what I can improve! :)
