That's just awesome!
The second piece I did of this kind, finished today -- a custom bass drum resonant head for my second band, the 9-piece Motown and soul cover band, The Accused.
Following what I did with the previous drumhead, the idea came to me to do up this one as well. This was a drumhead which didn't originally have a porthole; the previous drummer of the Accused manually cut it out. He gave me this drumhead because my only other porthole reso was one I had already inked for Rakoczy and the Horror Show, my folk horror band, and it wouldn't be in keeping for this one.
Except that it was incongruous. My drum kit is a Yamaha Stage Custom. This head was a Pearl reso which still had the logo plastered on it!
So I floated the idea of inking this one to the band, and to the drummer who gave me this reso. I got the band's, and the previous drummer's, blessing as early as December of 2023. It's only been inked now because we finally found the primer and varnish necessary for a job like this.
The process was a bit different here. Two coats of primer > black spray paint to obscure the logo as best as possible > one additional coat of primer > POSCA markers > two coats of gloss varnish.
