My scanner really supercharged the black ink on this one.

If you don't know - a Peryton is a mythological hybrid creature of a stag and a bird. They were creatures that lived in Atlantis before the fall of the empire and escaped by flight. Perytons are also said to be symbols of the fall of Rome. The part of their mythology that is the coolest is regarding its shadow.

It varies depending on the legend you hear but Perytons cast shadows that do not match their shape. The most common telling of the myth is a Peryton will cast the shadow of a man until it kills one itself- and only then will it gain its own proper shadow. Another version of the Peryton legend is one will cast the shadow of the last creature it consumed or will only cast a shadow while it is eating.

Talk about an identity crisis!
