HO HO HOPE you become a Newgrounds Supporter this year!
We're working hard to give you the best site possible, but we have bills to pay and community support is vital to keep things going and growing. Thank you for considering!
Hello,
I would like to preface this by saying, I LOVE THIS THEME. At this point in my art "career" I am attempting to switch from the digital style of art I have been using for 5 years to a much more "painterly" aesthetic. This has been really hard for me and since the pieces take so much more time keeping the inspiration is difficult. I loved this challenge because it pushed me to both finish a "painterly" piece and look at the two possible styles side by side. This has really inspired me to continue on this somewhat difficult path to painting digitally because I definitely like the look way more.
This COTM was way more difficult than others for me, not just because of the two styles, but also because I had NO ideas. Often I will sit down after watching the announcement video with a piece of paper and write and doodle a LOT of ideas. I end up with about twenty that then get paired down to three, from which I make full sketchs and role with it. In this case though the ideas would just not flow. I spent thirty minutes procrastinating my geometry homework to get a single idea, that I didn't even like. In total I had more names than actual Ideas and went with the only one I could bring myself to make a thumbnail sketch of.
In the end I actually really like this piece and how it shows both the harsh difference but also the blending. I think this is one of the best pieces I have made to date, thanks to the "painterly" style of half the piece, and I am super proud. I would like to work on it more and refine it a LOT but I don't think I have the inspiration and energy to fix it even more.
Thank you for looking at my piece
