This is very old. I must have drawn it somewhere in 2010 when I was working on the comic this character comes from. I inked it with the intention of coloring it at some point and that point just never came. I came across it while I was looking through my old work and decided it would be a good idea to just shade it with pencils, as that's one of the aspects of my skillset that I find most lacking. At some point I'll need to start doing the same thing in color, but not before I get the hang of how to do it with values.
Anyway, this is Ivan. He was one of the four protagonists of a slice-of-life/comedy comic that I worked on back in the day. This illustration represents his relationship with his past. As a teenager, he was a master of manipulation and used this skill to get people to do exactly what he wanted them to, viewing their free will as nothing more than an obstacle in his way. Reflecting on this behavior made him realize just how heartless and disgusting it was, and he decided to change his ways completely. Years later, the remnants of that same manipulative, selfish persona still try to rise to the surface - but now he has the mental fortitude to keep them under lock and key, where they belong.
