this illustration is many things. firstly, a twist on mermaids, for mermay a couple years back. this was the second time i thought it would be funny to have the mermaids with fish heads.
secondly, it was an attempt to create a bond with my two guppies who have passed away now. i speculated they were lesbians and wanted to create a world where they went to extravagant balls, wrote handwritten letters that would later be regarded as a "strong friendship", and had my cat as a pet. if ur wondering if it worked, yes, the last of the two recently passed away and i cried very much.
third, it was a tech demo of sorts, i wanted to see how well i could utilize a painterly style in procreate, and demonstrate a good use of color.
