Dewey Compilation [2023]

Share

A compilation of artwork I made of my OC, Dewey, Betty's cautious partner from 2023. As I discussed in my previous compilation art of him (and Betty), the artwork here features Dewey in more explicitly feminine clothing (including his current "default" sweater outfit) and re-introduces him as a witch boy (outside of his former implied "maid" occupation, he had no other specific role besides being a friend and helper of Betty). Moreover, this marks the point where --although I hadn't by this point officially referred to him as such-- Dewey could definitely be considered to be a femboy character. [Case in point--this compilation doesn't include the artwork of him as a Team Rainbow Rocket grunt (guess which uniform he wears) or his princess outfit--all of which were also from 2023.]

Needless to say--compared to his few and sporadic appearances prior (especially when compared to Betty), I personally have a lot more fun and interest drawing Dewey this way compared to before (and as I said before--the feminine elements to his appearance/character have been there since the beginning).

Original art titles, art date publications; and art descriptions:

Backbeat (1) / March 11th, 2023

Doodle of Dewey in a new outfit and revised hair. I still intend to keep his previous outfit around, possibly as an alt.

[EDITOR'S NOTE: This not only has yet to happen, but even this outfit hasn't shown back up yet.]

Dewey Swing (2) / March 16th, 2023

Another doodle of Dewey in his new appearance. This design was actually conceptualized here first and then refined in Backbeat (which was finished/posted first), which is why his jacket here is more detailed in appearance. (Besides the added fringe, it's essentially the same jacket from his former/alternate outfit.) Some of the changes in Backbeat were retroactively applied here, though (the circle patterns on the sides of Dewey's dress were originally different).

Aluminum Dugout (3) / June 3rd, 2023

Practice with posing and lens flare.

Evening Flight (4) / November 6th, 2023

"I don't know how to fly this thing!..."

(Part of my queue of late Halloween artwork I'm publishing after Halloween.)

[I do find it a bit funny in hindsight that what was supposed to be a seasonal/occasional "witch" outfit ended up being his new default outfit. Well, minus the the witch hat and other magical properties, of course.]

Dewey Neuron Doodles

Doodle 1 (5) / December 2nd, 2023

Doodle 2 (6) / December 2rd, 2023

Two doodles I drew of Dewey when I was sketching a sweater/thigh highs outfit for him (which eventually produced "Witch Dewey" as seen in Evening Flight [above] and Gourd Gusto [below]). I was motivated to post them in light of this popular "Neuron activation" post by Doremian Cleff on Twitter, hence the title of the doodles. (The outfit(s) of Doremian's OC Jet was a direct inspiration for Dewey's sweater/"witch" design.)

Gourd Gusto (7) / December 2nd, 2023

Okay, I kinda lied. Even when we're now entering the Advent season, I actually still had one Halloween artwork leftover that missed the queue. [Context: At the time, I said my Speculum artwork was the last Halloween artwork --posted after Halloween-- that I had at hand.]

But I guess we could say it's seasonal autumn art, as long as we handwave the giant pumpkin Dewey's traveling through the forest on. (The vines are supposed to serve as reins.)
