This month I saw the 3rd episode of The Amazing Digital Circus, and I honestly think it was great but flawed.
I'll say this: Kinger's backstory and character development was brilliant and beautiful, but it did feel like it was based off of fan theories rather than it's own thing. The fact that Kinger, my fave character, who I like to call the All City King because I'm such a big graffiti head, got an episode for himself, is just so so good.
The episode did feel like it took long to come around, but that was mostly due to it being about a big spooky mansion, so the fact we only got to see it when October came around ultimately made sense.
But my problems are that the episode felt really short, the ghost NPCs barely did anything unlike in the second episode where the NPCs had a degree of importance to the episode. Perhaps there was a time crunch of sorts or we'll see the ghosts in another episode. Who knows?
My other problem is that the swearing and censorship, especially when it comes to Zooble, were not covered up well. You could still see and hear what Zooble was saying and it just ruins the idea of The Amazing Digital Circus being a slightly family-friendly horror thingy and just makes it yet another adult cartoon in the endless sea of them that have been flooding animation for... What...? 7 years at this point? There needs to be a balance in animation of family-friendly and adult. Things shouldn't be too soft or edgy. Both are cringe.
Overall the third episode was great. But it's all destroyed by a few really poor decisions that just degrade the experience into another Helluva Boss or some other cringy modern-day adult cartoon, which is a shame. I guess modern day 'animators' are so Hell-bent on subverting expectations that they completely abandon reality in some weird postmodernist delusion they're so infamous for. Or maybe they're trying to starve modern-day kids of entertainment in the hopes of them finding interest in business or science so they can be "productive"? Be careful what you wish for, Expectation Subverters...
But hey, at the very least we got to hear Kinger say "BONK!" at the end, which is what inspired this funny art.
You may not use this work for any purposes.
