Yep, it's Hickory Dickory Dock, the nursery rhyme. The semester's been really busy and while I really wanted to get something in for the NG Orchestral Competition, there's just been too much on the docket to make time for it (plus some poor prioritizing early on). Kudos to everyone that participated - orchestra is a different animal and you all did a great job working with it!
On this piece: We're often assigned to do arrangements with a twist, and this one was a grand, full orchestral piece based on a nursery rhyme melody. I got - you guessed it - Hickory Dickory Dock. This was actually done a few weeks ago, but since we're halfway through March and I'm not finding time to make dedicated pieces for uploading to the Internet, I decided to share a taste of the sort of stuff I work on week to week for class. It's not always full orchestra, but it often takes a lot of time and challenges you to get things done fast. I'd call most pieces at the initial hand-in state (like this one) 60% done, and hopefully that number will rise as the workflow becomes more familiar. :)
As always, if you can hear my influences you earn a gold star!

"YO"
I think this is the first classical song that I have heard, that has been remastered. It is a simple nursery rhyme that has an interesting twist on it. It reminds me of something you would hear in a Pixar or a Disney film.
Thanks! It is a bit of a strange piece in that way, but that's what makes the small challenges fun! Appreciate the Disney/Pixar comparison!
I believe there's a celeste or some other high instrument in the 1:25 part that made that part a bit unpleasant, although it's probably because of headphone differences. I enjoyed this thoroughly, I love fantasy pieces like this.
You're right, it's a celeste - I totally get the issue there. Realistically it wouldn't sound like much more than a bit of a shimmer on the texture, but the lack of mix time means it's coming in pretty hot here - the horns and strings would be eating up all that space in a real session. I really should go back and fix it so it's not as tinny and obnoxious, but I'm kind of bad at finding time for revising old work lol. Glad you liked it otherwise, I'm a huge fan of adventurous, over-the-top fantasy stuff like this as well!
Really good sound
Now this was just a beautiful piece of sound and really feels and sounds like you put your time into it the middle build up was a nice touch on it too, so for me really well done on this one make more soon.

Really appreciate the review! I think improvements could definitely be made, but I'm glad you thought it was good! I love this kind of orchestral stuff even if it feels a bit dated these days.
You may not use this work for any purposes.
