A few friends had a game jam in school and they asked me to make music for it after.
I was just messaged one day and was asked to make 2 songs so I thought I might as well. I kind-of blacked out during the creative process so I don't remember much since I did it all in one sitting. This is the first one being the beach level.
I think my favorite part is the melody. For some reason I really hold back in terms of rhythm in my works. I can't for the life of me use 16th notes. I just can't seem to find a place in my skull for them so I always try to force them into my works just to get out of that mindset. In here I think the added 16th notes add a bit of rhythmic interest which makes it a lot more light hearted I feel, like a kid running around from place to place. It kind-of makes sense with the context of the game because I was told that it was a cat stranded on an island scurrying around to fix their boat.
I'm weirdly proud of this one because to me it feels more legit than my other compositions. I used a bunch of free VSTs and you can tell but it sounds really nice which I like. It gives off this "cheap and cute" vibe. I've only seen a few screenshots and the logo so I only had so much to go with in terms of what it should feel like.
Looking back at it now it kind-of shows a bit of inexperience because it doesn't even loop properly. I've figured out how to make things loop using the musical form and especially with reverb and effects and all that but that really only came with time. Technically I still don't understand it that well because I have no idea how Unity, or whatever engine they used, deals with music. I tried downloading it myself just to see but I got lost immediately. Maybe I'll figure it out one day.
Monster Hunter has ruined my mind since I just noticed that when I uploaded this to SoundCloud I named it Felyne instead of Feline.
