Main Theme from “The Batman” Cover

comp. Michael Giacchio

arr. Alyxandr

MatterBoar commissioned me to make a cover of the Main Theme from The Batman (2022). He said he wanted it to stick to the main hook of the song and not wander into the more complex middle section and for it to “vibe”. After a poor first draft, I came up with an early draft of this version. He didn’t feel like it fit that description, so to salvage what I had struggled to make I pitched everything up seven semitones then slowed down everything by 20%. I wanted to do this technique by using the high speed-low speed dubbing feature on my cassette deck, but it’s broken, so I did it in Audacity.

I wished I could have put the middle section in because I feel it breaks up the monotony of the main section. It would have sounded cool in this synthwave style. To compensate, I added a mostly new melody. The new melody is based on two notes from the original song near the beginning. There wasn’t much to work off of, so I took creative liberties. The cover’s original melody was pretty slow moving and uneventful, so I added a harmony to keep it interesting.
