Desert Run Zone

Edit: Uploaded a version that loops better.

I've written down some ideas for some new original video game songs that fit into a conventional sonic album, a handful of zones, a few boss themes. I've approached this as if it were a "Sonic the Hedgehog 4" soundtrack for the genesis. Desert Run Zone is one of the last ones, it's kind of like a transition stage, like Sky Chase Zone, where sonic is fleeing from Dr. Robotnik's Animal/Machine Factory and going into his giant space ship. As the death egg was destroyed, I figured, he built a new one, the "Phantom Chaos" ship.
Well, that's my story anyway, I think it'd make for a pretty fun game.
Hope you enjoy this track, it's in 12/8 time, triplets. It's a little bit out of the sonic theme, as far as syncopation and phrasing, but it's pretty much stock standard VG.

Cheers.

Nice rythem

You seem to know what you are doing this has some great quality nice rythem and a burst full of energy and really plays well from start to finish i think the onlything i may suggest would be to make this even longer then it already is but anyways great track here

~X~

good job

^^ sounds nice, plain and simple but a good melody executed rather well. The loop is pretty good, still not quite there yet tho. There is something slightly lacking in the synths, but i have no idea what. Maybe too pushy, or overused, but then again you need to hold the melody somehow. overal nice work. catchy tune

WritersBlock responds:

Cheers. Yeah, the synths could have been a bit better imo. I wouldn't mind messing about with this one, if I get bored with my other music.

It's nice to see you back, I like getting your reviews. =P

Good

Very nice retro music, reminded me of a terminator type music. But I really like how epic it sounded. Like a march into war or something. It deserves to be put into a flash right now. I really liked the slight tweaks to the melody of the song aswell, made it quite refreshing

WritersBlock responds:

Yeah the beat has a slow march feel to it which worked really well. I'd love for it to be used in a flash, that's the main reason I made it a catchy repetitive, short loop, ideal for that sort of thing.

Cheers.

(title in work)

A very good song. The beat you kept gave it a very interesting and serious mood to the whole song. The percussion definitely made this song what is was, along with the wind-sounding instrument in the background. The only thing I didn't like was the long piano synth cords, which I usually think sound kind of noobish.

WritersBlock responds:

Cheers for the review. Yeah, the percussion was something I've improved on, although it's not all that overly complex, just a couple of drum samples, volume turned down a fair bit, it's not in your face, but it's sitting somewhere at the back. The other sounds were FL presets, which I usually try to avoid, and looking back, I could probably replace them with better sounds to fit better.

What's in the desert?

Eagles? Enemies? Mines?

We could be here all night discussing this, but I feel that the beat and the keyboards really contributes to the whole presence of the tune, making it a very powerful piece.

The only negative thing I could say is that it's too damned short - you really need to give me something a bit longer, to deal with all of this power, help me to explain the metaphors etc :P

WritersBlock responds:

There's a giant robotnik machine chasing sonic through the desert. There are also spikes and mines, and machine insects, and crabs. Probably. There's actually a lot in the desert.

Too short, eh? Well, I was aiming to keep it nice and condensed, if you want something that goes the distance, try some of my other music, that has less practicality for flashes, but more potential for awesomeness. (note, I'm still working on a decent piece like that, bear with me...)
