Fig III: It's been a while since Balloof went outside, so what better time to do it other than at night when the stars beckon for his limited attention?

Okay truth be told, I had a different song that was supposed to take the 3rd position in the album, but after weeks of procrastination and lack of inspiration I just went ahead and started another song just for the heck of it... and then I accidentally finished the new song. I had to change the story in mind a bit to make this fit, but here you go, a post!

This is also around the time I got fed up with dealing with the dumb bug where I could no longer select notes sometimes and to fix it I had to restart the app, totally breaking my concentration.

And that's on top of the fact I never got used to waiting for the song to be uploaded to google drive. So I bought the app on my ipad and it's been semi-smooth sailing since then... of course now I have to wait for the song to update across devices just so I can continue where I left off while I'm commuting but that's a tradeoff I'm willing to do in exchange for a longer time in the composition zone...

Oh the song, right... about that... I don't know what to say about this song other than I kinda liked the effect shift thing that reduces the dynamic range or whatever it's called to a telephone-like range...

This song is the first and only song I've ever revealed as a WIP. Shocker I know, but I really don't have any presence outside Newgrounds... until this month! The christmas competition had me join a server, and finally I worked up the courage to upload my WIP. And I can honestly say thanks for the help on something about trance stuff and delays. Though it didn't impact the song significantly, every little bit helps!

And with that out of the way, I shall work on my next song (which is either going to be the christmas secret santa entry or DAT4CYN track. Until then, I'll catcha later!

p.s. I'm almost LV11! I should start scouting more people, the potential (and/or the audacity to copy paste) is out there waiting!

p.p.s. Wow a 6 minute track that's perhaps not as repetitive as my other attempt at a long song ahem ahem....

p.p.p.s. You may have noticed I stopped using Audacity... and that's simply the result of being unable to exchange files quick enough so I got lazy and went straight from FLSM to newgrounds... but at the cost of losing noticeable volume it seems.

iPad mini 5? Hey, that’s what I use to make all my music.

This is one of the most interesting of your songs. Of them all, I feel like this tells the most complete story. I would have to knack the percussion for being a very basic rhythm for most of it, and also being used in two sections. I’m not sure how to export with audacity via FL mobile (something I thought was impossible but you say otherwise), can you just upload it as a file into audacity and call it there with no sacrifice to volume? I’ve had to work around that issue for as long as I’ve used FL mobile by increasing the volume of the entire track manually JUST enough to not be distorted, but it results in a quieter track, though not as quiet as if I used the “normalize level” feature when exporting as an mp3. Anyway, enough about that, the melody is nice and somehow seems less repetitive than your other music, good job on this one.

PartyBalloof responds:

You can export the file to MP3/WAV using FLSM3, then transfer the file using iTunes... which is a big hassle and annoying but it's a heck of a lot better than waiting for the cloud to update and downloading the track from there.

Oh for the record I never touch normalize level, the drawback of how much volume you lose when you use it far outweighs the benefit of not having a single clipping of audio. Usually just having a limiter at the very end of the effects is enough to catch most clipping, and those that get past aren't significant enough to ruin the song.

What I used to do on audacity was import the song, increase the volume until it clips a reasonable amount, then just soft limit it and call it a day. No one noticed, and everyone was (hopefully) happy.
