This song was meant to tell a story of a man who is about to be hanged. From 0:00 to about 1:20, the man has effectively shut himself off from the world, immersing himself in his memories to avoid what is coming.
From 1:20 to 2:05, he has opened his eyes to the reality of what's going to happen to him- and unable to take it, he shuts himself off from the world again... but... this time... something's different.
At 3:15, he finds a little serenity in himself. He begins to cultivate it, to bring it out, to make it him.
At 4:15, he opens his eyes yet again. But this time, his head is held high, as the noose is draped around his neck, and the bottom drops out from under him at the end.

Wow, who knew music can be this powerful?
I mean damn you basically made this song out of pure imagination to tell a story out of it about a guy experiencing death. I even like that you want to hear about what our story is? Hmmm... Well not too sure about that but I always felt this would make a great song in a Fire Emblem or Zelda game.
Overall this song is bonechilling good. Really goes to show that music can do a lot of things. Great job!

I can see your story
I dont know if you have ever read "I Am Legend" but this songs reminds me of the entire story. He is alone and struggles to deal with his emotions then he comes to terms with what has happened then the stress of being alone comes back and he drinks the pain away. Then he is taken away to the vampire prison to be executed and thats when he see that he is the monster and not them. So he comes to terms and lets himself be killed. I would read the book if you havent I really like it. Great song though absolutly love it.

I loved this! Overall the whole song is wonderful and the piano fits nicely with the mood.
From about 1:19-2:04 it felt like there was a war going on. Like in your description, there's this feeling of a lingering death. The drums really helped to portray that, and made it sounds wonderful.
The ending is well done. You've nicely built it up to the point, just like a revelation might be. The music kind of makes me imagine that the man is proud of his life and is accepting what is soon to come. The drums at the very end also, to me, help me imagine the executioner doing his business.
Your description goes well with the song. :o
