“The long trek”
This is the last song chronologically to be posted before In the Gaze of the True Foe - pretty much the finale of my own diep.io conception centric songs before rehashing earlier ones only. It also is the last of the three longer environmental songs, first being Aura of Rays, then Scalene Wastes. It references a very old song by Zathsu called “The Toil Pits” at the beginning - since at the time this and others in similar format were for the Tale of Diep project on the diep.io wiki. A location called “Toil Ridge” is where it would play. The song title is directly a reference to the geography of Toil Ridge, featuring a massive deep in the ground named Mantle Fissure. Even when the album changed settings, the title still applies in a new context - both as a descriptor for the land… and a new one for the narrative.
This is the only song in this album that was created in yet another modded version of beepbox called “sandbox” by Sinetooth. The vast array of new channels were an exciting opportunity to expand the scope of song composition to a much greater level at the time. Despite its length it still is a looping track as it was composed in a way where it would be a continuous experience for a hypothetical player of ToD.
PR’s development left this song pretty much as is, aside maybe some minor mixing tweaks. The song art depicts a “unification” of the ally protagonists and former troublesome polygon characters. Who led them to join forces and why?
I find this song taking you on a long trek over a beautiful landscape of warm colors and step cliffs. You’d get a sense of scale and depth and maybe some somber notes towards the end. It is a percussive track, emulating the vastness and brings immense motion. As a personal experience, listening to this one is recommended when you need to take a break from the action. One of my favorite compositions of old. Originally made in 2018.
