I have bigger plans for this piece, but I feel that as far as demo recordings go, this one is probably OK to publish. Realistically, once I've figured out a guitar part for this song, my work is done.
The lead melody heard in the "choruses" came first, followed by the root notes. I wrote the opening arpeggio as a way to break the song up, with the difference helping the song feel fresh despite sticking to the same bassline/root notes for most of the song. I selected the preset I used on Atrophy, and added a bitcrusher. For the bass, it's just a modified Vital preset on the softer parts, and the heavier parts were achieved by overlaying a piano VST and a toggled amp simulator.
The drums are mostly MIDI, but I overlayed one shots from my drum machine over the notes. I felt that this enabled me to customise the sounds further than either method would allow me on their own, and granted the percussion more weight. I also used my drum machine to add a tambourine for sections where the composition relaxed.
Please contact me if you would like to use this in a project. We can discuss the details.
