Made in 5 and a half hours!

First song of the Year!

I recently decided to go back to my songs from 2023, and I saw a song known as -Wildflowers- (Remastered Version)

After listening I just said “Bro this is ass, but it’s also kinda fire”. I’ve always loved orchestral music, especially VGM orchestral, so I decided to make some more, but rather then a new one, I would make the second version of Wildflowers! I’ve harnessed all the skills I’ve learned this year, from Compression, to Equalizers, to mixing and mastering, I even experimented a little bit with Limiters in this one. Hence to say this was extremely fun to make, and oddly for me, nostalgic? I’m not sure why, but I just feel really proud of this one! I also kinda got inspired from @Cyberdevil due to the fact we had a conversation about “Old Newgrounds Music” lol!

I know it may be a bit minimal in some areas, but I was really trying to keep the vibe in the song, same as to why some transitions could be improved, I was trying to stay true to the original melody. Anyway, hope you all enjoyed this song, and perhaps… maybe you know the song from before… ;)

It also may be a bit quiet, so RAISE THE DAMN VOLUME!

Another great piece of music to enjoy to the fullest. I also wanted to listen to the song linked in the description to see the differences and changes made to the song. I admit that in the first song I like how it starts but I noticed a much more simplified style. There is acoustic clarity but the percussions are not so incisive in giving a more decisive rhythm. They sound thin compared to this version. The drum solo at the end of the first song add a nice andante rhythm on the end.

After re-listening to this song I can see the improvement and changes that make this song really enjoyable. I think one of its strong points is the VGM orchestral. I can see how the compression, equalizers and mixing combine together in a very harmonious and enriched sound array, congrats! Nice use of the hi-hats at 00:28 which give a nice pause between the two segments of the first half of the song and then the staccato strings at 00:30 can be fully appreciated.

Fun fact about staccato (but I think you already know): staccato has been described by theorists and has appeared in music since at least 1676.

I just love the faster attack these staccato strings give to the composition because they help to build the structure of the song and revolve around root notes. Correct me if I am wrong but at 00:57 I could hear a beautiful Sakuhachi flute. I don't know if it has been added to add colour to the sound or give a more exotic vibe. Either way I love it, since I was little I was always fascinated by this flue I discovered when listening to Enigma. I can hear the flue at 02:37 despite being very low in volume since the outro wants to give a sense of distance and separation from the place. It's not a negative feeling this separation feel, quite the opposite. It's a feeling of peace and serenity.

The whole song has a this relaxing vibe enriched with more vibrant and lively notes in the first half as if it were a flowery field. I like the passerine birds chirps that give this sense of peace and unity with nature. I also like the presence of long and continuous notes of legato strings in the second half of the song. Nice transition from note to note with no intervening silence in the legato sequence. If staccato gives me the feeling of flowers blooming in the field in such quick and rapid explosion of life, legato makes me more contemplative and relaxed. Maybe a quick fade at the end of this legato sequence would have enhanced a more dream-like vibe but it's perfectly fine this way too.

I've noticed a bit of muddy sounds where more instruments enter the mix during the first staccato sequence but then again the staccato manages to take the lead and make things a bit more homogenous in terms of mixing, at least in my opinion. Once again a hi-hat break at 01:21 and then again at 01:35 as if they were some kind of clap markers for sub-chapters of the story told in the song. This is at least what I think, I am not an expert in anything. I just like to mentally break things and see details they can offer me^^

Compared to the first song posted in the description, this one has a more strong atmospheric vibe around it. I can sense the feel of nature and this is helped by the presence of bird calls and piano notes at the end that almost sound like delicate like raindrops wetting the ground in the late afternoon after an intense hot day in summer or late spring.

I think there is still room for improvement when it comes to audio elements, hence my 4.5 star rating and not a full 5 but overall the song is very solid and enjoyable. I commend you and your improvement, keep it up. You have lots of talent!

Creeperforce24 responds:

I can see the critiques! There was one song I made called Stranded where I basically based the song after the shakuhachi flute lol! I actually found this sample and just liked it, without even realizing how people might actually react to hearing it due to nostalgia. I also know who enigma is, great band!

Do you know who is hiding in those flowers 🐈?

Creeperforce24 responds:

@whimsical-wife, we have to burn the wildflowers

Hey, sorry for the slow response! Had a really busy week at work. I like the sound design a lot here. The stop-start string riffs at the beginning might need some more decoration (reverb, other mixing effects) to help enhance the atmosphere a bit. Love the higher-pitched string line at :45. A lot of the percussion in the piece is very low-register - I would give the mid-range frequencies a boost in the equalizer. Also, there's a bit of dissonance at around 1:10. Maybe part of the problem is that the chords sound pretty muddy when all the notes are so low-pitched. The outro with the guitar was a nice touch, though - super mellow way of "resetting" the piece for the final minute or so. Overall, solid work, CF24! A clear improvement over the original. ^_^

Creeperforce24 responds:

Thank you! Yeah the original whenever I hear it makes me this

Sounds like the ending theme song of a fantasy based series :0

Yeah, okay! I see you, Creeperforce24.

I enjoyed listening to your track, and it gave me some uniquely nostalgic vibes, probably because at times it reminded me of some old-school video game music. This is probably going to sound a bit ironic, but I think you suffer from the same issue that plagued me early on in my musical career: bad samples. But on the plus side, I'm not going to dock you much for that because what's here is solid.

I actually really like those staccato strings that get things going, but when more instruments enter the mix things start to get muddy due to conflicting frequencies and some samples sounding oddly detuned. Those low, legato strings are probably the most noticeable of the lot.

I find the stripped-down section at 1:46 to be really nice, honestly. Letting those soundscapes shine was a really good decision, with the birdsong and soft rain permeating the background. Once again, a better guitar sample would have made your chord progression sound even better, but we all work with what we have.

OMG, that shakuhachi (Japanese flute) sample is SUPER nostalgic! I used to put the in my music WAY too often back in the day. The key doesn't really match the lead-in on the track, but it made me laugh to hear it in there anyway. Those legato strings are there, hanging on at the end a bit too long, so I'd suggest a quick fade. And then it's just the rain in the background, but without any instrument layers it sounds pretty hissy, and there's even a random pop.

I mean hey, for something you cranked out in just five and a half hours' time, I'm pretty impressed. There's plenty of room for improvement and spending more time in post to fix audio issues could help a lot, but the track itself is solid. Thanks for inviting me to give it a listen, man. Keep compos(ed)ing.

Creeperforce24 responds:

Hmmm… the bad samples do make sense, as well as all the other stuff.

I have a feeling the reason the samples sound so bad is cause I am a mobile user XD. Yep, I made this on Fl Studio Mobile… I’ll definitely try and improve the slight off keys in the songs, and the about the shakuhachi, really @Trevor8 is the only reason I put that in… and about the pop, that was an attempt at trying to fade out the rain, that didn’t go well obviously XD.
Thanks for the critique, I’ll see how I can get better!
