I'd originally released an earlier draft of this back in August 2022 under the title "Erebus" (the name I'd given to the character this song is based around, as almost every song on this album bases itself around a character in some way) for round 2 of NGUAC 2022 (hear this earlier draft here: https://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/1151777). However, suffice to say that in different ways, both I and the listeners of that draft weren't wholly satisfied with it, and so back to the drawing board this went. That original draft was already pretty substantially inspired by the works of Xtrullor and Feint, but for this updated version I leaned a bit more heavily into the Xtrullor inspiration, which I think adds a fair bit more variation to this. Additionally, I tried to do something clever here regarding the instrumentation's symbolism, paralleling its gradually decreasing use of acoustic-sounding instruments with a sort of loss of humanity for that aforementioned character. Overall, I think this is a substantial improvement over the original, and I hope you enjoy listening!
