Drums of Doom! (DjD)

EZDrummer is an awesome program. For a few weeks, whenever a drum beat came to my mind, I put it in a certain .FLP, and this is the result.
This is a 43 pattern, or 4 minutes long drum solo! All the beats are made from scratch, not a single preset has been used. Most of these beats are completely impossible to play on a real drumset, although most of them were created from some mindless bashing on my drums.

I hope you enjoy listening to it as much I enjoyed making it!

Mad-Muppet responds:

Thanks man, can't wait for your drum solos :D :D

Nice

Really good, really different and really fresh. The majority of the stuff on NG seems to be like the same old dancy trance type stuff (with the occasional really talented artist who is willing to make the leap, take the risk and try something new). I can really sympathise with you when you feel as though your work deserves more attention. I will be keeping a close eye on you my friend.

Mad-Muppet responds:

Wow, thanks alot, man! I love your stuff, it's awesome that you liked this one :D

Almost-tribal-sounding rhythm-only tune. Fresh.

I've not heard another tune that's 100% percussion on the AP. Very few elsewhere. So this is like a breath of fresh air.

The starting beats have a tribal quality and I love the rhythm that kicks in at 5s.

Starting beats could have maybe been a bit deeper though and had a bit more resonance. They sound slightly curtailed.

The 57-80ish section is another favourite bit of mine.

I definitely prefer the song when you stay away from the metallic bits of the drum kit, like the snare sound, cymbal etc. I found that that takes away from the sorta tribal vibe.

Also, the simple rock beat at 2:49 doesn't really work too well - not as interesting as everything else you've got going.

I'd love for this to become a series - I enjoyed this one and will definitely keep it. Maybe experiment with different percussive sounds and employing the rhythm in place of melody more - with a basic rhythm, then some riffs on that rhythm, the way a good song will riff on the melody.

Mad-Muppet responds:

Hey now that's one helluva review!
I can see what you mean at 2:49... Didn't really think about it. Thanks!
A series... now that could be kinda fun! Thank you for a great review!

Almost tribal

I like what you've done with this tune - it could almost be taken as a tribal war drums beat, but the cymbals that you've put in don't go well for that effect. Plus you'd need about 20-30 of them all trying to keep the same beat, which might not work too well on your program, because it's too accurate for the beats.

About 2.30, it does sound a little messy, as too many drum beats are all trying to get into the same time space, so you might need to tidy that up a little.

Good work, keep it up.

Mad-Muppet responds:

Thanks for some constructive criticism!

This is a very great drum track with some very nice rhythms. I was tapping the rhythm more than once during this song. ^^

Even though the track is nearly 4 minutes long, I didn't find it repititve. But that may also be because I really LOVE drum solos. ^^

I think it would be great if you (or some skilled guitarist) would add a guitar track to this. I think it would sound very great.

I've got a friend that's a pro at guitars, so maybe he'll do something. Thanks for the review!
