Well. I threw this together pretty quick with Boobass, dblue glitch and a couple of 3xosc. I'd never generated oldschool 8bit percussion before. I think it came out fairly successful, and if I had more interest in the project I'd probably flesh it out a little more.

As it is, I think the track is, if nothing else, interesting. I haven't listened to the original composition, so I will not try to promise technical accuracy, and I didn't drive myself crazy 'proofreading' the track so it may have some slight musical inaccuracies.

Other than that... enjoy I guess?

By the way, it's worth noting this is a cover of a song from one of the pokemon movies I guess?

Not bad for a quick "throw together" song

I just saw the forum post and decided to check this out. I think it would be important to say that I haven't heard the original song, so my opinion may be off point at times. I think if you worked a little bit more on the drums and adding some more variety it could be much more enjoyable. It would probably be cool to hear some cool chords behind the melody also. I think it would be cool to have the chords kick in at 0:24 where the melody restarts, and maybe have a drum fill that leads into it. If that makes any sense to you. I'll check out some of your other stuff and see what else you got goin on.

loansindi responds:

Hey, thanks for the review.

I had fiddled with tryin to make a couple other drum sounds, but didn't catch anything that was really satisfactory so I let it be.

I was experimenting with some harmonies/supporting chords briefly, but then decided that putting together a convincing chord progression around a melody that was already written was outside the scope of this project.

Open-minded

I personally think this is a pretty good rendition of the theme. The original version has moving strings and woodwinds, so in comparison this seems flat and static. I still like it, though, because you've put a unique spin on it that, frankly, I wouldn't think anyone else would bother trying. Kudos for that.

Nice job on the percussion, too. I've tried, but can't make 8bit drums...

I know this was just an experiment, but hey, I liked it. I'm interested to see if anything comes from this...

loansindi responds:

Hey, thanks for the review. The original forum thread went something like 'someone should cover this, I've got the sheet music' and I pointed out his sheet music was just the melody and he responded 'well I was hoping someone who had heard it before...etc' so I figured I would tackle it specifically with information given to me, without listening to the original track or searching more complete music.

So I started throwing in the melody, faked up a synth and built some percussion for it. Overall I spent maybe forty-five minutes or an hour doodling with it before I was satisfied the project was complete. I think it turned out interestingly, if nothing else.

Dear Lord.....

You've nearly just killed every single childhood memory I've ever had.

loansindi responds:

What?

you've got to be kidding me

try to shape the white noise to actually make it enjoyable, and try not using fl studio, criticism or telling you what to do, i know what to do, and its a big change from what im hearing :(((

loansindi responds:

wow. you're good at words.

LIE

Sounds cool, but you need to keep working!

Sounds cool,but way too MIDI.
Another version with better sound would be great.

6/10 3/5

loansindi responds:

The 'MIDI' feel was intentional. The song itself doesn't particularly interest me, so I used it as an opportunity to experiment with 8-bit style percussion.

This is pretty far outside my normal style, and is almost entirely an experiment.

Thanks for the review, you should definitely check out some of my other stuff for a better idea of what i really do.
