Olivier Messiaen is a contemporary composer. He composed a lot for the piano. He did some religious piece but with original names : "20 regards sur l'enfant jésus", "liturgie de cristal", etc.

He loves birds and he incorporates some melodies based on bird songs in his pieces.

This piece is from the oeuvre "Quatre Études de Ryhtmes".

So, it's really rythmic. The mood of the piece is really intense and explosive. Images of fire are reminded in the mood. After the rythmical introduction that introduce the theme at the left hand, there's a quick passage that is followed by the theme with a bird song in the high-pitch. After, the composer plays the resonance of the piano, the colors of the sounds. The piece finishes with a new theme that is played at the left hand (violent) while the right hand is playing a non-stoping melody.
