Some Cheesy Trance Thingy

for ngadm round 2

Edit: So, a few weeks ago one of my friends dared me to make some "happy" music because he was sick of listening to my "death techno", a.k.a. my dubstep. So, I told him that I could make a trance for him in about 5 minutes. And that's about all it took lol. While I obviously spent a little more time than that on this, it really didn't take as long as I thought it would.

The only thing is that it's not quite finished how I would like, so I might be spending some time after round 2 to fix it up (good chance I'll be losing this round =P)...or not. I might just create a new idea altogether.

Also, this is my first true Trance song...ever. I'm not a humongous fan of the genre, but I suppose producing it gave me a new appreciation for it.

Finally, uber props to my brother, who uploaded this song for me while I was in a different town and didn't have my laptop so that I could participate in the NGADM!

nice

nice trance. sounds kinda unfinished though. would love to see this revisited and made into some thing epic!.

mr-jazzman responds:

I may consider it. =) Just one of many ideas that I've got in the works (including some house!) =D

Very very nice.

Quite fast paced an energetic, its got a nice mood to it, even if the song is a bit empty at some instances. Especially during some transitions, which apart from some cut off ones, were mostly good. The instrument samples are of a high quality at least, and they were used to their own capability quite well, with nothing trying to compete against everything else. The melodies at some moments really made me bob my head, i have to admit, and despite this being a trance song, its about as varied as you can get, with little to no repetition throughout. The drums as well, were well used and gave the song a second depth, nice work. Unfortunately, you had to spoil all this with a pretty abrupt outro, and i can't even say that it looped well, because the music just suddenly cut off. Still, besides this, this is a very good song, with a lot of potential and a great use of melodic harmony. Nice work!

SCORE:
Intro = 2/2
Outro = 0/2
Blend = 2/2
Transitions = 2.5/3
Bass = 2/2
Originality = 3/3

Darklight

mr-jazzman responds:

Yeah. Honestly I really didn't care, and I think it came out in this one. That's why Highballers won, and I'm not surprised. I'm actually GLAD he won, because I really need to focus on other things atm. I've got an album coming along that should blow this shit out of the water. Thanks for giving me an honest review besides!

Lol BounceCore.

1:27 and on is adorable.

I really despise most trance music. This is not one of the songs I despise. I can still hear a little bit of Jazzman buried in there. Good luck.

mr-jazzman responds:

Haha thanks. It was mostly just to show my friends that I could write any genre. ;)

Btw I don't really care for Trance music either. House is more my thing, if I have to go mainstream techno. And my holy grail is obviously dubstep! =D

Wow, not the best but wow.

Composition: HOLY SHIT SO MANY DIFFERENT PARTS!!!! While you maintain the same progression throughout the entire song, there's so much changed after every 8 bars that it's hard to tell that you keep the same progressions at all, that I give you props for, great work. The melodies in every part are great! One complaint I have with the composition is the extremely sudden ending, there are the few times when the song repeats that it sounds like a loop, but it could just be the NG player screwing up the looping effect.

Instrumentation: While you maintain the same instruments for the progressions, it's the melodies with each transition that keep me interested, especially during that fourth part with that cool sound and the fast arpeggio-style notes, that was absolutely great. Nothing's wrong with the progression's instruments either though, it's just the melodies that really draw me to this song.

Mastering: I can't exactly pinpoint it, but something seems wrong with the mastering. At this point I've listened to the song a good 6 times and something with the mastering still seems off.

Great work! This is a great song IMO.

mr-jazzman responds:

Hey, thanks for the review Pure-Metal-UTA! Yeah, I can tell you exactly what's wrong with the mastering. It has too much bass because of the way I've got the compression on the master...or it might even be a lack of it. I'm not entirely sure which yet, I haven't listened to it in my brother's car, as I usually do to see where I'm off lol. Honestly, it was experimental, so if it didn't work, I don't really care lol.

Glad you liked it though man! =D
