This Is Awsome
THe drums goe good with the guitar very well. You have a good talent with making them blend together pretty well.

REACHFREAK OUT!
Realized I had the tempo like 10 bpm too fast after I had recorded everything. Yeah, I got lazy, though I'll probably end up making a full cover of this one day and spend more than 10 minutes on mixing and mastering...
One day.

It's great, but...
Okey, i know this is supposed to be a cover, but seriously, it sounds waaaaay to much like the original Opeth song. This IS a good song and cover, but i like the original better still. I will give you an 8 just because you chose a good song.
Nicely done!
Sounds to be pretty heavily inspired by the Gothenburg death metal scene...if not, then disregard what I just said.
Nothing too dynamic going on with the melody, but it keeps the song's energy going nice and steady. I personally like the shift near the end where the riff gets a bit darker; though the song ended soonafterwards, it was a nice shift. If you're going to revisit this in the future, I'd definitely suggest developing that end melody a bit more!
Overall, nicely done!
It's a cover of an Opeth song so you were pretty close, their early material was most likely influenced by the Swedish DM scene. The whole song is like 14 minutes, don't think I'll ever have the patience to make a full cover... But you never know.
hah
awesome two first seconds. The rest of the guitar part was a bit well, I didn't like it as much. But it would be beast-ass as shit if you added the guitar melody one octave below. Unless that interferes too much with the bass. Still, the awesome low riff in the beginning is too much of a false proimise for me to forgive.
Really nice melodies though. And nice tunage overall. Though I agree that the hihat sounds like shit. I'd just ditch it and replace it with something else.
I enjoyed it at this tempo despite what you say, after hearing this I'd probably think of a -10bmp version as too slouchy.
Yeap, hihat definitely sounds like ass in a can, can't argue with that. Gonna use Superior 2 for drums when I remake it, I used EzDrummer in this for some reason. I kinda agree about the tempo, I'll probably bring it down by no more than 5 bpm.
Thanks for the review!
Spend more time on this.
One day? Honestly, you made this in one day? Wow, I can barely manage to pump out a song a week if I really try, kudos to you.
If you do however plan to change this up a bit then master the instruments first. The mix isn't muddled too badly, but the Hihat on the 4/4 beat, my god, that is way too distorted. Lower the volume on the master track or that particular track to get rid of that shit - it sounds almost like a lo-fi shaker IMO. If the listener is too lazy to turn the song up, well, sucks to be them, most people would rather have a good sound than a loud one. Additionally, try to make the guitar riffs a bit more distinct and let up on the bass here and there.
In terms of the melody - it seems to repeat a bit much. But for a song made in a day its more than perfectly acceptable - even if it seems a tad generic.
Overall, phenomenal for a day project in my eyes, but otherwise bland and unfinished.
Thanks for taking the time to review it, much appreciated. I sat up all night a couple weeks ago when I recorded this, from like 11pm to 4am.
What you're saying about the hihat might be true to some extent, though it's hard to tell because it's actually a really shitty sounding hihat (you'd be surprised). The only possible distortion applied to it other than the mastering chain (which I highly doubt is the cause) would be the tape saturation which I went pretty gentle on.
I agree about the mastering, I usually prefer to leave some headroom but I guess that day I just felt like cranking a maximizer or something and be done with it. Will pretty much rework the mix from scratch if/when I end up getting at it again and rerecord everything.
Please contact me if you would like to use this in a project. We can discuss the details.
