Project 26 ~ 15 (Strife)

Hello once again, NG! This is the fifteenth of 26 submissions (or so) that I'll upload this year for a project entitled Project 26: Submission a Week. This project is in collaboration with NG user Chocosoda (check him out!) Each other week in 2011, I'll upload a musical piece for a total of 26.

It's May, and that means it's FFVI month. But this is an FFVII tune! What the hell, Joshy?! I got slammed with a bunch of work and personal matters in late March/all of April, so I'm playing catch-up over the next month. Everything will be late until I've caught up. (:

This time it's "Judgment Day" from Final Fantasy VII. We took a radically different approach to recording everything this time around, since all of our recording equipment is now at our band's practice studio! This time, the guitars (all Epiphone Customshop Silverburst Les Paul) were recorded through a Marshall VS100 head into a Belkin audio interface straight into Sonar. Our older brother got his hands on a disc and basically gave us free reign on the first shot at using it. Recording was done in studio, and then taken home for mixing. Why the title, "Strife?" Because this is Cloud's theme! We discussed back and forth the need for Cloud to have a strong theme behind him, and this is the fruit of our labor. Enjoy! :D

You'll also notice that it's not in the original key. We transposed it down a step (from B Minor to A Minor, basically) because we felt it sounds better in A Minor. This isn't the first time we've transposed a piece; "Hymn of the Fayth" was transposed down for "Leap of Fayth," and "Black Mage Village" was transposed into the key of "Alexandria" for "Vivi."

TIME/TEMPO: 3'56"/78 BPM (4/4 time)
KEY: A Minor
ORIGINAL THEME: "Judgment Day" by Nobuo Uematsu
MIDI TRANSCRIPTION: Nobuo Uematsu (ripped from the PC version data).

This is going to sound a little strange...

But it reminds me of Dynasty Warriors. The guitar put me in that kind of realm and what not. I love both FFVII and Dynasty Warriors, and so this gets a full-on 10 because not only does it sound awesome, it reminded me of another awesome game series.

paradiddlesjosh responds:

I never played Dynasty Warriors, but this is the kind of recommendation that would get me to try it out. :D

Thanks, Shawn. :)
