I love the 8-bit form. It allows you to creatively compose in midi on garage band without worrying about the tone or timbre of the piece. It strips something clean of all musical elements, except melody. I find the art of the melody quite interesting and though I'm not a frickin uber elitist musical theorist, dicking around with a synthesizer when I'm bored is something that gives me a strange solace. It's something I do when I have a breeze of insomnia keeping me stimulated while it gives my sanity a deadly blow. This thing? Think the final battle on Pokemon red.
