Evening Newgrounders,

This is a cover of "Nothing" originally by The Script. Not a whole lot to say really. All reviews good and bad are always appreciated. All the instrumentation was done and played by me. It's a real treat to get to work on music while I'm at work, as hard as it may be. It's also embarrassing as hell singing in a house with your coworkers present, but I think they are used to it by now. I was thinking of maybe making a amateur music video to this song, thoughts? I'm taking suggestions for my next cover in my news section so drop me a comment there.

Here are the lyrics for everyone. I sing some parts differently than the original but I doubt it will matter much. Take care everyone.

Am I better off dead
Am I better off a quitter
They say I'm better off now
Than I ever was with her
As they take me to my local down the street
I'm smiling but I'm dying trying not to drag my feet

They say a few drinks will help you to forget her
But after one too many I know that I'm never
Only they can see where this is gonna end
But they all think I'm crazy but to me it's perfect sense

And my mates are all there trying to calm me down
'Cause I'm shouting your name all over town
I'm swearing if i go there now
I can change your mind turn it all around

And I know that I'm drunk but I'll say the words
And she'll listen this time even though their slurred
Dialed her number and confess to her
I'm still in love but all i heard was nothing

So I stumble there, along the railings and the fences
I know if I'm face to face that she'll come to her senses
Every drunk step i take leads me to her door
If she sees how much I'm hurting
She'll take me back for sure

And my mates are all there trying to calm me down
'Cause I'm shouting your name all over town
I'm swearing if i go there now
I can change your mind turn it all around

And I know that I'm drunk but I'll say the words
And she'll listen this time even though their slurred
Dialed her number and confess to her
I'm still in love but all i heard was nothing

She said nothing
Oh I wanted words but all I heard was nothing
Oh I got nothing
Nothing
I got nothing
Nothing
Oh I wanted words but all I heard was nothing

Oh sometimes love is intoxicating
Oh you're coming down your hands are shaking
When you realise there's no one waiting

Am I better off dead
Am I better off a quitter
They say I'm better off now
Than I ever was with her

And my mates are all there trying to calm me down
'Cause I'm shouting your name all over town
I'm swearing if i go there now
I can change your mind turn it all around

And I know that I'm drunk but I'll say the words
And she'll listen this time even though their slurred
Dialed her number and confess to her
I'm still in love but all i heard was nothing

She said nothing
Oh I wanted words but all I heard was nothing
Oh I got nothing
Nothing
I got nothing
Nothing
Oh I wanted words but all I heard was nothing
Oh I got nothing
I got nothing

Had this burned on a CD and took forever to re-find this. I never had realized it was a cover of anything and just today heard the original song for the first time... Honestly I can't even listen to the original since I knew yours originally and it's just so good. Your rendition of it is just perfect. Thanks so much for making and uploading this, even though you'll probably not see this.

MilkMan-Dan responds:

Haha... Well. Never would have guessed. I'm glad you took the time to re-find it and I hope it lifts your spirits in these weird times.

Agreed

I'm the same with brokenrecord6299, in that I don't care for pop music but this one is awesome. Great job MMD. Loving your covers.

Great song made better.

This is a great submission like most you work is. I liked the fact that you did actually sing lower then do the higher notes in the original song. The "I'm still in love" part of the original song always made me cringe slightly. You almost perfected what was already a great song which is something I don't usually say too often. I look forward to more covers or originals.

Superb vocals as usual

Your singing is excellent as usual. And the fact that you sing and play the keyboard at the same time makes it more remarkable in my opinion.
Also I noticed that you went down 4 semitones from the original melody. Are the higher parts of the melody out of your vocal range? Or did you just want to do something different?

MilkMan-Dan responds:

I can't sing that high. Period. That key is the key I had the most comfortable time singing in. Even still this was a very challenging song vocally. But it all turned out I suppose. Thanks for the review mate. Oh hey, btw... Thursday. BBQ at my place. I invented a new drinking game, you should come by. :P

Nice job

I like this, pop isnt really my thing, but i can tell a lot of work went into this, as a fellow musician, i understand how one's music can mean so much to them. But i can easily tell youre passionate bout this. Thats what makes a great song. Now to end my rambling, im going to say this. Dont lose your passion. Good luck in the music world.

MilkMan-Dan responds:

Thanks Mr Broken.

I'm passionate about a lot of things and I'm glad it shows. Very cool of you to leave a review despite it being out of your personal taste. Take care mate.
