Congrats
This is one of those gooooooooood trips. Reminds me a lot of Pink Floyd. Congratulations on winning 1st Place. (:

In case anyone is curious, I only used free software and samples. I mixed it at my university.
VSTi:
Yannleo Accentor x1 gp1 - piano; the original website is down, but it's still easy to find
Element of Surprise - http://www.ugoaudio.com/ - those very quiet synth sounds in the background
Magical 8bit Plug - http://www.ymck.net/ - just to generate some noise at the end. The band that provides the plugin is pretty damn interesting. It's like a mix of pop, rock'n'roll, maybe some jazz with 8bit instrumentation and japanese vocals.
Kontakt 4 demo - for the jazz bass and to use some other free stuff with it
Other software:
Paul's Stretch
Soundfonts, Kontakt patches, samples:
SBB's Talking Drum - http://www.newgrounds.com /bbs/topic/1263436
The jazz brush patch from http://www.pettinhouse.co m
Papelmedia Choir soundfont
Ghosthack's dubstep sample pack - http://www.ghosthack.de/
Physical stuff:
Kapok MEG 9012 - a stratocaster
Shure 12A - a very old dynamic mic
The kick is from various things I've layered and processed fairly heavily some time ago.
Congrats

Actually, once I recorded the guitar part and listened to how it sounds with the song, I thought of Pink Floyd too. It feels friggin' awesome to hear "your music reminds me of Pink Floyd" from someone other than me though.
Thanks and congratulations to you too! Hopefully we'll compete again sometime.
A sleeper success
Wow, I may feel tired now, but this feels like a nice "conclusion" to the whole load of songs I listened to earlier. One of the drugs that seems to offer a little taste of all the others.
Voices, drums, pie-ano, and gee-tar? It's the works in this, with a big side of [insert random psychedelic drug here].
I feel like I'm in so many different places at once. I feel like I'm at a beach, drinking a margarita, watching ghosts flying over my head.
I hear a big influence of "Sofa Surfers (Richard Dorfmeiester Remix)" coming from this, if you ask me. A fine tune, if you haven't heard it.
Rest well, and hopefully this review will be the wake-up call you've been looking for.
I may be out of it now, but I definitely feel a RUSH!
-FTA
It was a very nice way to wake up indeed. For once I tried my best at creating some music and I have to say those reviews are very rewarding.
It's interesting, because I had none of the images you described in my head when coming up with this piece. They do fit though.
I checked out the song. I really like this sort of chillout stuff. Now you should check out Jazzanova - Coffee Talk if you don't know it. It's a bit more on the experimental and mysterious side, but still fairly relaxing if you ask me.
Thanks!
Please contact me if you would like to use this in a project. We can discuss the details.
