Few things leave a person feeling more ambivalent than the return home. On one hand it's exciting. You'll see family, friends, and familiar surroundings. But it's also sad, because your adventure is over. You're leaving behind new friends and the excitement of the unknown.

But where is home? Here is one of my favorite poems, by Eihei Dogen, that might give you a new insight to this idea:

Treading along in this dreamlike, illusory world,
Without looking for the traces I may have left;
A cuckoo's song beckons me to return home -
Hearing this, I tilt my head to see
Who has told me to run backwards;
But do not ask me where I am heading,
As I travel in this limitless world
Where every step I take is my home.

-Eihei Dogen

To follow up the melody of Life on the Frontier, I included part of it in this song, but with modifications. This is track #6 from my album of demos.

Like an RPG...

0:00 Climbing a hill, as the sun is setting.
0:42 You're at the top of the hill, and you see your tiny village, after years of travel.
1:07 Your family sees you at the top of the hill, and you start running toward each other.
1:23 You embrace your loving wife and children.
1:45 You go inside the house.
1:56 You tell stories of your travels to your wife and children
2:16 Your old friends burst through the door, and you begin a joyous welcome home party, filled with stories, mead, and merriment.
2:48 Camera pans up into the night sky

Just an idea for an animation.

Good day!
