this is really a complicated piece of art,
I had to listen 3 times to it just to notice I liked it.
It's not really my style but as I said above, I like it
This is a song I created for the NGCD competition. Although I didn't get on the CD, I got a positive response to it so I figured I'd touch it up and put it here.
I recorded this song in August 2011, and redid the bass a few days ago. I originally had in mind a background track sort of song for a game, but it developed into this. I used all real instruments (drums, keys, bass, guitar). I titled it "Offworld" having in mind the adventures, dangers, and wonders of being exposed to a new world. What that world is, it's up to you I guess. I can't really fit this to a genre since it's got a lot of everything in it, or at least I think.
Hope ya like!

Well, shucks, thanks.
Sounds Great! I really like all of the random changes in styles. It's like a musical mash of all genres. And did I hear a little Legend of Zelda Inspiration? I agree with OcularNebula: It reminds me a lot of An Endless Sporadic.
Yes, a little LOZ inspiration. And I never heard of An Endless Sporadic, but I'm listening to them right now and I'm loving what I'm hearing.
This is a super sweet track and totally deserves to be called a piece of art. Very interesting to listen to - it goes this way and that. Nice instrument choice and variety. The style kinda reminds me a bit of An Endless Sporadic.
Thanks!
Quite interesting little experimental track. Seems a bit lackluster in some parts though.
My main issue is the slight lack of balance and... in lack of a better word, co-operation between the different instruments and parts. At points they seem to go off and do their own thing, which doesn't always fit. Example, the xylophones don't really feel like they're part of the song, but rather like they're on their own. Might be the pitch of them that gives off that feel.
Variation is not something I can complain about on this track, oh no. You've got it. I like the feel it has, both somewhat ofa video game feel, and of an older rock tune. The intro is awesome, and the transitions are so damn smooth you'd never notice the song changed. Kinda.
I can't remember which track this reminds me of, but the seemingly random switches in nature of the track, that somehow seem all connected, really works out for me.
Thanks for the suggestions! I've been complimented before on my use of transitions, and the fact that while random, they can work well. I like to use that to my advantage.
What a wonderful world
The wonder comes from the variation, for me and I think that our own world is wonderful, despite the fact that we still can't sing in harmony (or anything remotely close, for that matter!) The symbolism is nice with that reference, although I would have preferred it to not sound quite so messy.
The start, with the "ice crystal" introduction, it's fantastic. You really did harness the whole mood there, but I'd have said that you were gunning more for an ambience and as a result, you didn't quite hit it, as your piece just stood there and became overwhelmed by the many facets of the whole, singing against one another, as opposed to with.
The drums were pretty good and so was the bass to back it up. It just needed something to take control and direct the track a little more than I felt it was.

Thanks for probably the best review I've ever read or received haha. The symbolic elements definitely could have been expanded on, I didn't even think of that. Thanks for listening!
