After unmanned probe expeditions prove unsuccessful in assessing the phenomenon heralded by the pulse beneath the waves, an old captain and his crew are commissioned to probe the depths of the ocean.
As the crew listens to the only clue as to what awaits them, the captain prepares them for their venture:
"Aye me lads, what ye heard is true. There is a terror below the waves...in the darkest deep, where men alone can delve.
Those who would man this vessel with me...are all charged with finding out...what in heaven's name is down there.
Ye have been with me through many a squall, but today...we venture into depths beyond ken."
(Composed in C minor, with the captain voiced by myself.)
