Great piece in general, I see that you went for a piano solo, Shostakovich's pieces are famously known to be climactic, even to someone who has never studied music theory before you should get them to *understand* the title, his pieces convey a story, your piece does "live up" to your title, someone might have been expecting something else... Sorry if I don't make sense.
