Frost Troll Audition

Someone from the voice forum is working on a Skyrim Mod and needs someone to voice a Frost Troll.

I am half-decent at voicing monsters so I decided to give it a go. My attempts range from the Troll actually talking to me trying to emulate the original voice files.

I think the Troll's original voice is a modified lion roar, so I did the best I could with my human vocal chords. :P

All sounds and voices were made with a microphone recording getting pitched down to sound more grumbly and deep.

Attempt #1 - Frost Troll Monologue
Attempt #2 - Frost Troll Grunts
Attempt #3 - Trying to emulate the Original Voice Files
Attempt #4 - Random Roar

Think it was alright? Leave a review!

That sounded awesome dude, those roars especially. I don't think you'd have any troubles finding some terrifying monsters, or gossiping ones, to voice in any upcoming projects. You've got some great quality too, occasional quiet sounds here and there but I think those are supposed to be there, who knows.

Not trying to kiss ass here, I just can't think of any immediate criticism. Sounds good, keep it up.

Syrupmasterz responds:

I think in the realm of monster voices, it's difficult to find a specific criticism.

Critiques about the quality of the mic, noise removal or other technical stuff are easy to discern on pretty much any piece of voice work. Once you get to more grumbly and frightening voices however, it comes down to whether or not the person sounded like a monster; which is subjective.

It's a tiny bit tricky to point out delivery or emphasis errors when the line is simply "RAAUUGH!". :P

I still appreciate the kind words though. :)

Sounds good. You have textures to your voice which work well for this kinda thing. You could do with improved technical audio quality, but hey, we ain't made of money so you can't just buy a fancy mic if you want, I get it, that takes time, don't worry.

Only really issue you had was some lines were kinda hard to understand. When voices are modulated to pitch down and stuff, this happens. It doesn't work for ALL lines, but sometimes speaking slower helps with the clarity of the words on stuff like this.

Sounds good though, keep it up!

Syrupmasterz responds:

I was probably speaking a little bit too fast towards the end as you mentioned. Most of my monster stuff is incoherent roars, so I still need to find a good balance between deep voices and audio clarity.

Technical quality will get better over time as well. :P

Thanks for the kind words!
