“Fairytale” tells the story of two stages of my life - childhood and adulthood. A lot of friends have asked me why I chose to name the song the way I did; the dark imagery and content don’t exactly resemble a fairytale in the typical sense.

As a kid, I let my imagination run free; I spun my own stories, fantasies, and of course, fairytales in my mind about what love and life would be like. None of these dreams fit the idea of what I felt was expected of me by society. Growing up, the pressure of conformity pushed me away from doing the things that I wanted to do, and being the person that I wanted to be.

As an adult, there was a turning point in my life where I realized that I didn’t need to live up to anyone’s expectations but my own. Even so, the dreams that I had as a kid were much harder to achieve than I had imagined. Though I often feel as though my goals are out of reach, I still keep reaching for them. Being at peace with this contradiction is the inspiration behind “Fairytale”.
