AIM - Beat Down

Created for the AIM 2017 contest. I've always loved the Megaman series, and seeing this art brought me back. Looking at the art gave me the idea of a cyberpunk Megaman, and it all went from there. Enjoy :)
The art that inspired this is Maverick Hunters, made by @mogy64. Check them out!

I like the groovy bass riff at the beginning. The drums are a little quiet, and could probably use more compression. The melodic synths are also really enjoyable. You have a good sense of harmony and progression. The rhythm at 1:04 is a little bit dense - I might suggest simplifying it to enhance the flow of the piece. My main problem with the piece is that it has a uniform continuity after a while without many changes in energy or dynamics. During the second half, there isn’t really a specific moment where you strip away the drums or synths to give this piece some shape and contrast. Overall, though, the cute mood and rich melodic content really make this piece what it is. Solid work!

8/10

I can definitely see the tech-y Megaman vibe. However, your instrumentation and mixing could be a lot better. A smoother lead would do much better. Perc is laying there in the mix. Could use some better compression, a bit heavier bass with more high end presence for definition, etc. Arrangement is fantastic. Your high end is just decapitating the low end.

I continue to hear eerie similarities between you and waterflame's work. All in all good song though! Mixing is fine, melodies and song structure is great, yet some of the instruments don't sound the best. I also feel that the bit-crusher is a bit to "strong" (?) as it seems to break the flow of the song and is a bit jarring.

I do love fun, playful music. So much so that my score is a definitely going to be a biased one in your favor. The song is far more cheerful than the art it was inspired by, but I'd like to believe hearing this would put a smile on X's face. It certainly added one to mine.

Win or lose, I think you did a fine job with this, SirQ. Thank you. :)
