Quiting Music

I quit 4 ever, LOL bye :D

Just kidding? The melodramatic title is meant to be ironic. It's just another slow year for tunes. Things are going really well with the life but I seem to get stressed out whenever I try writing musics. I can sit in front of the piano and be totally happy getting nowhere for hours at a time but the computer aspect is fucking murder. I've always had a lot of trouble moving ideas from the piano to the computer and I'm not alone with this problem. I've read other artists having this issue but to be totally honest, it's a cliche. Writer's block takes many shapes and feelings.

As an artist you have to do the same thing over and over again to make any progress. Practice makes perfect, yet repetition can also make something feel obnoxiously stale. I always want to do new things with music but I seem to run in circles. Repetition is paradoxically both therapeutic and stressful. Hours joyously playing a piano can become self loathing rage when your fingers start to hurt and your muscles begin to cramp. Hours listening to the minute details in the DAW can become bored frustration.

Totally unrelated to the previous train of thought, I rear ended someone on the highway the other day and it's been stressing me out. It wasn't a bad accident but it created the feeling that music needed to be pumped out. I've been playing with these melodies for years but it's that whole piano to computer disconnect. I'm glad to finally put the melodies into the ether because I needed to. I almost died in a car accident ten years ago and this recent collision was a stark reminder that life is fucking short.

Art and music will always have a home in my heart so long as my heart continues to beat. I just wish it wasn't so darn frustrating. Fuck music yo.

This is stressful, relaxing, disconcerting, and somehow dizzily cheerful at the same time. I don't understand, but that weird portamento shit going on with the piano is making my ears wiggle.

As always, your creative approach to sound design makes me feel like a wee babe. I feel your pain with the writer's block.

The only thing I don't like is that LFO around 2:00. And the final section, whiile immensely groovy, feels a bit unfinished. The drums miight be clipping. I can't tell. I'd like some wonky FX on the hats, maybe some stereo play. But now I'm just nit-picking.

Great work! :)

Thanks for the review Adr, you the best <3

really cool! Funny, the writers block sorta thing you seem to be having is what i have when trying to practice piano, but not when composing. weird. anyway really nice

Quarl responds:
