I love bossa nova. I partially blame Neon Genesis Evangelion and their perfect rendition of "Fly Me To the Moon".

If I could do it over again, I'd tame the solo section down a bit more, but I'm calling this one done and will keep it in mind for the future.

Keep up the good work!

Words are inexpressible how amazing this is. Keep up the great work :D

We'll be right back after this messages. Keep up the awesome. :)

It's a tad difficult to follow the rhythm at the very beginning, but it gets easier when the saxophone comes in. Really evocative and seductive vibe here. Part of me wishes the drums and bass were a little more prominent in the mix, just to give it a more full-textured vibe, but you've helped add some fill with the frantic solos at 1:10. It is a little hard to follow the contour at times, and I think it would've helped if there was a tad more atmosphere to support the sax - even some other woodwind pedal tones to smooth over the bursts of melodic riffs. Still, you wrapped up the piece really well with the mellow beats at the end. Overall, sound design wins the day on this one. I agree with you about the "untethered" nature of the solo section, but it's still one of my favorite recent works of yours. Keep it up, SFW!

I absolutely love bossa-nova! This is great jazz right here. How did you get your saxophone to sound real? Was it a vst? Or did you use a real one?

sleepFacingWest responds:

It's a vst and a real pain to program. I used the SWAM saxophones which are the most realistic I've ever tried. You can really shape the sound well with them so they *can* sound realistic, but straight out of the box they sound pretty crappy. You need to go through each line several times and shape the expression, vibrato, attacks, growl/flutter, bends, etc manually. With any of the SWAM or Audio Modeling instruments, a breath controller is pretty much required. There are almost no keyswitches, so all articulations are shaped with how you blow and tongue just like a real sax. Sometimes this is great, and other times it makes relatively simple things take forever. I use the tecontrol usb breath and bite controller 2. Hope some of this helps!
